Parting Shot: Midcentury Rejuvenator
John Reyno re-weaves the seat using Danish paper cord on a 40-year-old Niels Møller dining chair, one of eight belonging to a client.
Reyno’s company, Hawaii Modern, specializes in refurbishing midcentury modern – furniture whose design originated in the middle of the 20th century.
“My main thing is saving these great design pieces that have been around for decades. They are high-quality pieces that can continue on for years,” he says.
Reyno is a longtime collector and hobbyist restorer who founded his business in 2015 by acquiring, refurbishing and then selling classic furniture. COVID-19 suspended his search for furniture so he has begun taking on select restoration work for clients.
“I’m just a stoked, passionate collector who is willing to share my knowledge with people,” he says.
